Will doing the crossword every day or other puzzles help you avoid Alzheimer’s disease? Is diet a factor in whether or not you get Alzheimer’s?

There is no definitive evidence of what we can do to prevent Alzheimer’s Disease or age related cognitive decline.

There are some studies that do indicate later onset and slower progression of Alzheimer’s symptoms in people who have a healthier lifestyle. A combination of environmental, genetic and lifestyle circumstances is most frequently the cause of Alzheimer’s Disease. Increasing physical activity, a healthy diet, not smoking, and modest alcohol consumption all seem to offer some protection from the disease. Foods such as cold water fish, grass-fed beef, Greek yogurt, blueberries and acai berries, eggs and quinoa are recommended. Active social engagement, an expanded regular circle of friends and family, as well as reading and crossword puzzles, all appear to offer some protection as well.
